What I learned at PIBM?
When I came to Pune for post-graduation, it was a new city, new language, new culture with all unknown faces. I still remember my first day in PIBM, by the time introductions were over; I knew these were going to be the best two years of my life. Now when I look back to those days, I cherish my time in PIBM as my most valuable experience.
Academically, my experience in PIBM has given me a chance to sharpen my knowledge and skill in my field (MBA-HR). There have been many opportunities to learn ways of improving my skills, which I am truly thankful for. For example, all those Guest Faculty lectures at my college has taught me many management tips and rules that I was unaware even existed, and would still be unaware of had it not been a part of my experience. Because of this, I realized I still had a lot to learn despite what I thought; but this allowed me to improve my skills more as I continued to attend college and also gave me more confidence in my area. As a result, now I am implementing all those learning in my work.
In addition to going through the regular college curriculum, being in PIBM has also taught me a lot about practical and management skills. For instance, being a part of HR Care Committee during PIBM Job Fair and other events, I had the privilege of learning about organizing and managing events that I had little knowledge of beforehand. From this experience, I have learned many interesting things about micro-level management, ground level troubleshooting and managerial skills which are typically followed in corporate world. These immense first-hand experiences have been valuable to me because they cleared up some misconceptions I had, thus allowing me to be less ignorant of how corporate world works. It has also given me a better understanding of spectrum of practices across companies, no matter what region of the world they operate in. This has made my time in PIBM much more enriching and worthwhile.
I still miss those interactive classes and supportive faculty who always encouraged me to do my best in all subjects. Faculty in MBA department and our HOD were very knowledgeable and always ready to help, which I find the best part of this college because they were more like a mentor and friend than a strict faculty with whom you can share your every problem and they give you the best solution for it.
The best thing that happened to me during these two years was the opportunity to do a summer internship program in Finolex. I still remember the pain our placement department had taken to get all of us place in leading companies for internship. The two months I spent in my internship helped me a lot to learn the practical and day-to-day workings of a big corporate, with a variety of tasks ranging from leave calculation to recruitment interviews.
In summary, my time in PIBM has enriched my life in many ways. It has provided me with the necessary tools to enhance my skills more, taught me valuable knowledge about this diverse management world and management concepts in general and eventually enabled me to become more successful in life. It also has stressed to me the importance of thinking critically and asking questions in many situations. All these aspects of PIBM have also made me better-rounded as a person. I got some gem of friends who have always stood by me in thick and thin of life. These experiences are truly irreplaceable and I would not trade them for anything. If I could go back in time and speak to my much younger self when I was first asked the question, “What has been your best experience?” the baby-faced version of me would certainly have been surprised by what my answer is now. Thanks PIBM and everyone associated with me during this experience of a lifetime.
